Director’s Desk

St. Joseph’s Community College is a unique endeavour of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy, Bhubaneswar Province. It is unique in many ways. It imparts skill-based education. It has students from wide variety of spectrum such as those completed 8th std to graduates, rural and urban, failed, drop outs and passed, 18 years and above, of poor and lower middle class, belonging to various religious faiths etc., The Community College has such variety of people mainly because it is an institution by the community and for the community.

St. Joseph’s Community College was in started 2008 as a response to the present plight of the semi-educated and school drop-out youth in the slums of Bhubaneswar and in the remote areas of Odisha struggling to gain some livelihood. The College has been able to reach out to these people in the last 12 years quite successfully. Till date we were able to educate around 4000 young people of whom 80% have achieved placements in different reputed institutions.   The College envisages reaching out to a large number of people in the days to come.

The candidates who secure admission to St. Joseph’s Community College are not only trained in skills that earn them a livelihood but also acquire proficiency in English, computer application, and life coping skills. Moreover, the candidates are fortunate to obtain a lot of practical knowledge and first-hand experience of working in the field through internship and placements.

St. Joseph’s Community College is a hope to the hopeless, giving wings to their dreams. It offers tremendous opportunity for people in life. It wishes to give best to the least and include the excluded.  We happily welcome you to join us to enhance yourself with newer skills of work or give wings to the dreams of others.

I sincerely acknowledge the contribution of many people who strive towards the empowerment of youth. Finally I take this opportunity to thank all our benefactors, well-wishers, donors, Sr. Leena the Provincial Superior and team, Fr. Richard Vaz SVD, Fr. Joy SDB and all others from far and wide.  I wish to conclude quoting Thomas Perez “Community colleges provide higher education where people live, helping to build strong ladders of opportunity that allow people to secure a foothold in the middle class.”

God Bless you and remain blessed
