“I have not seen a school nor stepped into a school until I reached St. Joseph’s Seva Sadan Community College on 1st October 2019. I was passionate to learn and Sisters were very kind to me. I put in efforts and my trainers patiently waited for me to learn.” I am coming from Kalahandi district of Odisha. The district is known for poverty, illiteracy and migration. Girls are considered more as liability than as an asset. My first step out of my village was to travel to Bhubaneswar. I was fearful, uncomfortable and shy. I did not know to read and write. I wanted to learn and earn something for my life and support my family especially my sister at home. After six months of training I learned the basics of Odiya, English and even Computers. I am so excited about my life. The College gave me an opportunity to stand up and speak up for myself and others. I am indebted to St. Joseph’s Seva Sadan Community College, Sr. Remya, Sr. Jyoshna and all my teachers who helped me dream for a brighter tomorrow. I was selected for the job placement in Kitex Ltd Kerala but due to the outbreak of COVID 19 I have not been able to go for the placement. But I stitch at home and earn some money that I can support the education of my sister.
